Johnny Depp manages to get in the best and worst movies going. This rubbish does not help his career. I hate any movies that makes itself out to be challenging, particularly those nonsense “real sex” ones which were popular for 5 minutes a few years back. Why do those movies always have characters who you dislike immediately and therefore cannot be arsed watching what happens to them (unless you know it involved excruciating death). This is another one of those movies which takes itself far to seriously. The addition of Johnny Vegas made it even sillier. Avoid.

  1. I had a hard time watching parts of this movie for 2 reasons: historical period (including language & dress) and seeing JohnnyD’s scenes where’s he’s definitely unattractive. His acting always captivates me, but I for one really hate to see something so beautiful made to be so ugly. The movie did very poorly in its initial release in the US and garnered no awards, but it did get significant nominations and awards in the UK, making me think that the US failure was due to most Americans’ lack of familiarity with-knowledge of-interest in – that time period and hence immediate rejection. After watching it a few times, I now like it very much, especially the performances of Rosamund Pike and Tom Hollander (never seen him before – love him!). The movie has a lot of humor and irony. Give it another chance.
